Forums and threads

Threads and forum posts use the settings of the channel they belong to, and forum channels can be linked like any other channel.

Threads and posts follow their channel

  • Inline auto-translate works in the threads of an allowed channel and in the posts of an allowed forum. /server channel add accepts forum channels.
  • Blocking a channel with /server channel block blocks its threads and posts too.
  • Flag reactions and Translate Message work in threads and posts like everywhere else.
  • Stealth mode never deletes the first message of a forum post, so the post keeps its content.

A route or a group can link forum channels, so a guides forum in English can have a French and a Spanish copy that stay up to date on their own.

/server route add source:#guides target:#guides-fr language:french /server group create name:guides first-channel:#guides-en first-language:english second-channel:#guides-es second-language:spanish

On the dashboard , forum channels appear in the channel pickers marked (forum).

What happens once forums are linked:

  • A new post in one forum appears as a new post in each linked forum, with a translated title and body, the author’s name and avatar, and the same attachments.
  • Replies inside the post are translated into the matching post in each forum. In a group, replies to a translated copy reach the original and every other language too.
  • Tags carry over. Each tag is matched to the target forum’s tag with the same emoji, then by name. Give each tag the same emoji in every forum and translated tag names still match. A post with no matching tag stays untagged. The exception is a target forum that requires a tag where Talksy lacks Manage Threads: there, its first tag is applied so the post isn’t rejected.
  • Deletes, reply quotes and reactions stay in sync inside posts, as described in Cross-channel sync.

Only posts created after the link are copied. Replies in older posts stay in their own forum.

Rules

  • A forum links to forums, and a text channel to text channels. A route or group can’t mix the two.
  • Media channels count as forums.
  • Threads inside a normal text channel are not routed: their messages stay in the thread.
  • Private threads are never routed.

Limits

Forum routes count like any route. The free plan has 1 route and 200 routed messages per month, and each new post or reply counts as one message. Channel groups need Pro. When the free cap is reached, routes pause until the 1st, including replies in posts that were already copied. Posts made while routes are paused are not copied later. See Plans & limits.

Permissions

In every linked forum, Talksy needs View Channel, Send Messages, Send Messages in Threads, Read Message History, Manage Webhooks and Embed Links. Manage Threads is only needed to apply tags that only moderators can use. Without it, those tags are skipped.
