Security & privacy
Permissions and why
- Read messages / message history — to see what to translate.
- Send messages, manage webhooks — translations are posted through webhooks so they appear as the original speaker.
- Manage messages — only for stealth mode (deleting the original after translating) and delete sync.
- Add reactions — reaction mirroring on routed messages.
- Use application commands — slash commands.
The bot is server-scoped: it can only read channels it has been given access to.
What is stored
- Translations (source text, translated text, languages, server, channel, message id) for 30 days, so replies can be quoted and stats shown. Then deleted automatically.
- The links between an original message and its routed copies, for 30 days (powers delete sync and reply quoting).
- Per-member settings: your chosen language per server and monthly counters.
- Anonymous usage events for product analytics.
What Talksy never does
- It never sends translations by DM and never posts your message content in bot embeds.
- It never translates a member’s messages inline unless that member opted in with
/talksy. - It doesn’t sell data. Translation is performed by our AI translation provider under our terms.
